It was that event that made her fall for wrestling and decided that she want to make it her career. She took inspiration from wrestlers such as Ted DiBiase, Bret Hart, and Owen Hart. She studied at Notre Dame High School and also used to play track sports and tennis. Career beginning
Beth’s journey of wrestling started at the Notre Dame High School, and she was the first female wrestler who played for the school. In the year 1999, she won the North-East freestyle women’s championship along with the New York State Fair Tournament. She always wanted to become a professional wrestler as it was her ultimate goal. After completing her graduation, she joined the professional wrestling school, Stu Hart Dungeon. Her first match in professional wrestling was against Alexis Laree, and after that, she played several matches against male as well as female wrestlers. Later, she joined the Far North Wrestling and was the only female wrestler there. In 200, she won the FNW Cruiserweight championship.
In the year 2004, she was invited to try her hands in WWE, World Wrestling Entertainment. After that, she was shifted to Ohio Valley Wrestling, OVW, which was a territory of WWE. She debuted in OVW in 2004 and changed her name to Beth Phoenix, and became an on-screen partner of Chris Masters. She signed a contract with WWE in 2005 and broke her hand in the same month.

In the year 2001, Beth got married to Joey Carolan and but they separated in 2010. In 2011, she started dating Adam Copeland, who is popularly known as Edge in WWE. The couple welcomed their daughter in December 2013 and named her Lyric Rose Copeland.
