Bethanie’s tennis career started in 1999 when she participated in the WTA Tour event held in Philadelphia. She got qualified in the event through a wild card but unfortunately lost in the first qualifying round itself. Next year, she again got a wild card entry in the qualifying round in the Lipton Players in Florida. In the same year, she played the first Grand Slam of her career in the US Open but lost the first round. In the year 2001, she was given a wildcard for the qualifying round of Ericsson Open, Florida, but she faced a loss in the second qualification round of it too.
