Early life 

Bill Cullen’s full name is William Lawrence Francis Cullen, and he was born on 18th February 1920. He took birth in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and was the only child of his parents. His father’s name was William, and his mother was Lillian Cullen. His father worked as Ford Dealer in their hometown. When he was a child, he suffered from polio which made him physically disable for the rest of his life. He studied pre-med at the University of Pittsburgh and left his studies in between due to some financial issues. However, once he gained some success as a radio personality, he went back to the university, joined a course, and attained a bachelor’s degree.

Career beginning

If we talk about the career of Bill Cullen, it started in 1939 when he joined the WBGG radio in Pittsburgh. He worked as an announcer and disc jockey at his first radio job. In 1943, he left WWSW to join KDKA, and a year later, he left it too and went to New York. After struggling for a week in the new city, he got picked by CBS as a staff announcer. To earn some passive income have started writing joked for some of the top radio stars such as Jack Benny, Arthur Godfrey, Danny Kaye.

His first game show was ‘Give and Take,’ which was started in 1945. He worked in several other game shows between 1946 to 1953. He also took over as the host of ‘Winner Take All’ after its previous host, Wilson, left. In the year 1950, he was the quizmaster on the ‘Hit the Jackpot.’ Bill has also served in the Army as a pilot for the US Army Air Corps during World War II. He also offered his services as an instructor during World War II.

Personal life 

Bill Cullen got married thrice and didn’t have any child from any of his marriages. His third marriage was with Ann Roemheld Macomber in 1955. It was his third marriage and lasted till his death in 1990. Her third wife also worked as a model on ‘The Price is Right. She died in July 2018 as, at that time, she was 90 years old. Bill was only 18 months old when h contracted polio which made his childhood full of struggles.
