Later he moved to United States Merchant Marine Academy and completed his further studies at New York University. He attained a history degree at New York University in 1964. In his University, he also played for the NYC Violets football team. After attaining his degree, he lived in Cornwall, New York, for around seven years, from 1977 to 1983.

Career Beginnings

Polian started his professional career in 1978 when he played as a scout for Kansas City Chiefs. He left his football team in 1982 and later joined Chicago Blitz of the United States Football League. He worked as a personnel director at Chicago Blitz. He joined the team in 1983, and it got shut down in 1984, which made him move to Canadian Football League. While at the Canadian Football League, he gathered Grey Cup-winning teams and Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Montreal Alouettes.

Bill remained general manager for Buffalo Bills for six years, but before that, he was hired to be the director for Bills in 1984. During his time as general manager of Bills, he won the NFL Executive of the Year Award two times in 1988 and then in 1991. In 1993, the bill lost in Super Bowl three times, and he was fired from his general manager position. Later he joined Carolina Panthers from 1995 to 1997, and after that, he was hired as President in 1998, where he builds Indianapolis Colts.
