Early Life
Binod was born in 1955 on 14th April in Kathmandu, Nepal, in a Marwari family. Both his father and grandfather were entrepreneurs who started their own textile business, and after his grandfather, his father developed the business. Binod always wanted to pursue education instead of getting into the family business. Today, Chaudhary credits his father and grandfather as main inspirations. Career Beginning
In the 19th century, Binod’s grandfather named Bhuramal Das Chaudhary, moved from India to Nepal. At the age of 20, he began his own textile business, and after 1934, he was the only person to start a registered clothing company. After his grandfather, his father named Lunkaran Das Chaudhary grew the textile business, and he even established a construction company and international trading houses. In 1968, his father founded a retail store, Arun Emporium, that became the most famous and successful enterprise. During that time, Binod was planning to pursue Chartered Accountancy and wanted to move to India. Still, his father got diagnosed with heart issues, and the doctor told him complete rest, which didn’t let him continue the family business.
As Binod was the eldest son, the entire family made him the head of the business. In an interview, he said that “My life changed overnight. I was left with no choice at all. But this helped him to become a tough man”. He started importing Japanese Suzuki cars to Nepal at first. In 1973, he started his first own independent business of a discotheque company known as Copper Floor. The company gained huge success, and even Chaudhary made deals with National Panasonic, a Japanese electronics firm.
Chaudhary’s grandfather founded a business group and named it Chaudhary Group. The group introduced the Wai Wai noodles to Nepal, and it became the bestseller of the company. Since then, his journey started, and he also becomes a politician by joining Nepali Congress Party that Sher Bahadur Deuba led.
