Dupri was born on 23^rd September 1972 in Asheville, North Carolina. He was raised by his parents, mother Tina and father Michael Mauldin, in Atlanta. Over time, he instituted a new record label of his own named So So Def. This was established in 1993, and after instituting this record label, he noticed Xscape, the female R&B group, and signed with them.
