The ability to connect with others on a variety of different levels is essential to effective communication and leadership. Identifying with and relating to other people is critical in establishing a connection and being able to build rapport. We can connect with others more effectively by identifying areas in which we have a common ground; 

  • Keeping our communications clear and straightforward; 
  • Piquing people’s interests;  
  • Motivating them; and  
  • Being genuine, A good communicator is one who, when appropriate, engages in transparent and shared decision-making, provides constructive feedback, and routinely appreciates the accomplishments of others.  
  • Active participation in communication is essential in order to foster meaningful relationships with people. 

For a person to obtain followership from a group of people, regardless of how big the group may be, the individuals in the group must first have trust in that individual. Members of the team or organisation must have the conviction that their leader is a capable person and worthy of the responsibility of leading them.  

Values and ethics have a significant role in building trustworthiness. Leaders willing to take a proactive role and demonstrate through doing are more likely to be successful.

There are many sides to being a successful leader. Not only do they require the soft skills that make people want to join them, they need to be able to demonstrate knowledge and expertise in their subject area. This covers a plethora of things, many of which are specific to their interests, business area or leadership focus.

When it comes to leading a business, the ability to foster a productive and effective workforce is paramount to the sustainability and profitability of a company if it is to survive and prosper. Simple things like the ability to spot the right innovative technology like Jobber or whatever fits best for your company, can make all the difference. Even simple steps like using templated documents to speed up administrative processes can significantly help workflows.

Decisive 

A successful leader has sound judgement, values advice from knowledgeable people, and is open to hearing feedback from everyone.  

  • The most effective leaders take choices in the manner of democracy but carry them out in the form of a dictatorship. Deliberate decision-making entails constructing an accurate, full-spectrum map of all the potential outcomes; 
  • making an educated guess as to where each of these possible routes may go; and 
  • concluding by evaluating several potential options. Leaders sometimes get themselves worked up because they want every choice to be flawless; yet, the most exemplary leaders make judgments even if they know that such decisions might be incorrect. The ability to make decisions quickly and with conviction is the actual difference.  

Independent Thinker 

The capacity for clear and insightful thought is among the essential characteristics of an effective leader. Instead of being wed to outmoded strategies or popular management ideas, leaders need to be able to identify and implement solutions that make sense to the average person. Good thinkers always solve problems and never run out of ideas for building their team or company.  

Spending time reading books, listening to podcasts, and having conversations with others who are inventive thinkers are all great ways to generate new and fresh ideas. If you put in an hour’s worth of work, you may only come up with one or two ideas that are relevant to your circumstance.  

Positive 

The most successful leaders have an optimistic and motivating attitude. The people expect their leader to be excited and enthusiastic about the future. They are responsible for instilling a sense of excitement and confidence among the team members over the end of the business. 

There is a one hundred percent chance that you will face challenges and setbacks, both of which will inevitably lead to increased levels of anxiety and pessimism. Positive leaders must learn to exercise response and management skills to maintain their upbeat demeanour in the face of trying circumstances.  

Humility 

Exceptional leaders know that no significant accomplishment can be completed single-handedly but rather always need the assistance of others. Those in leadership roles need to have an attitude of servant leadership. This involves a willingness to listen to input and react correctly to it, as well as an admission of faults when the situation calls for it. Humble leaders are devoid of ego and pretension and take an interest in various perspectives and ideas.  

They maintain a grounded, down-to-earth demeanour in their dealings with others, use humour to make light of themselves, and give credit to others. A person in a leadership position must be willing to acknowledge when they are wrong. A modest leader will take responsibility and offer an apology when it is warranted.
