Beth Howland was born in Brighton, Massachusetts, on 28th May 1939. When she was 16 years old, she left home and went to New York City following a friend who was a dancer. She struggled a lot in her teenage to and put a lot of hard work into building her career, and all of her efforts paid off when he got to play the role of Lady Beth in 1959 for the musical comedy; Once Upon a Mattress. Career beginning
Beth’s professional career started in the year 1959 when she made her Broadway debut with the ‘Once Upon a Mattress.’ She also appeared in the movie; ‘Lil’ll Abner’ in which she danced as well as sung. She played the role of Clem’s wife in the movie and was cast alongside the TV superstar; Valerie Harper. After performing incredibly in ‘Company,’ her career took off, and she started getting a lot of work. After the great success of ‘Company,’ she shifted to California and started getting guest roles in different TV series. Some of the major series in which she played some guest roles are Love, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Love Boat, etc. Her performance in ‘Alice’ was highly appreciated, and she also received four Golden Globe Award Nominations for it.
Later, she also worked in some telefilms such as ‘A Caribbean Mystery, ‘You Can’t Take It With You,’ etc. She played the roles of Alice in all nine seasons till the show ended in the year 1985. Personal Life
Beth Howland married Michael J. Pollard in 1961, but they both got divorced in 1969. The couple also has a daughter. Later, she married Murphy Brown in 2002 and stayed with him until her death. Beth has the habit of smoking since her teenage, and she quit it in the early 2000s, but it was too late. She was diagnosed with lung cancer and died at the age of 76 in 2015.
