Career beginning
If we talk about his professional career in Athletics, it started with the 2000 Sydney summer Olympics. He participated in the 1500 m, and it was a cut-throat competition between Hicham El Guerrouj, Noah Ngeny, and Bernard Lagat. After all the efforts, Lagat was able to get the 3rd position and win the bronze medal. Next year, he participated in the World Championships in Athletics, 2001, and got a silver medal. He stayed at the 2nd Rank in the world during that year. El Guerrouj was his biggest competition, and he worked hard to beat him in almost all the prominent races of his career. In the year 2003, some traces of EPO were found in the blood of Lagat, which made him withdraw from the 2003 world outdoor championships.
In 2005, he got the citizenship of the United States and started representing the country in international events. He was also banned from the International competitions, which made him miss the IAAF World Championships held in Helsinki. He has set three world records while representing United Stated in the International athletic competitions. In 2007, he got the biggest achievement of his career when he becomes the first athlete to become Double World Champion.
